The 2023–2024 DIES NMT training is slated to take place within the landscape of Indonesian higher education. There are over 4,000 higher education institutions nationwide, with over 300 classified as vocational higher education. Out of these, around 50% are privately owned, and 80% of these private institutions, following the national accreditation ranking system, hold either a C accreditation or lack accreditation altogether. Demographically, regions with academically vocational solid higher education institutions are primarily concentrated in Java.
Addressing the quality disparities among vocational higher education institutions, especially private ones, is a critical and urgent need. Leaders, particularly those lacking formal training and experience in higher education management, find it challenging to enhance the quality of these institutions, elongating the transformation process. The DIES training is strategically crafted to expedite the capacity building of these leaders. This, in turn, is anticipated to accelerate the overall progress in enhancing the quality of vocational higher education institutions in Indonesia, especially those residing outside Java and Sumatra.
